At Adora Bullmastiffs, we want prospective owners to come to love the breed as we do. That is achieved by providing a healthy and sound Bullmastiff with a family-minded disposition.
We are American Bullmastiff Association (ABA) members in good standing and have been Bully owners for over 16 years. Doreen has been showing dogs for over 20 years, mostly with Working Breeds. All breeding dogs and bitches are AKC Champions and have OFA health clearances.
The Bullmastiff breed came into history around 1860 in England, they were bred to keep watch over large estates and game preserves. Gamekeepers at the time needed a dog that could quietly keep track, cover short distances quickly and pin and hold poachers without mauling them. The ideal breedings were 60% Mastiff and 40% Bulldog; the breeders were trying to create a dog faster and more aggressive than the Mastiff, yet bigger than and not as ferocious as the Bulldog.
Right Breed for You?
The Bullmastiff is fearless and confident, yet remains docile and sweet-natured with his family. They are natural guardians of the home, but do not bark much, as silence was a virtue when guarding estates. Bullmastiffs are independent thinkers and may not respond to traditional obedience training. The breed does not require much exercise or grooming, and can live happily in a house or apartment.
